Blood Defense by Marcia Clark: A Book Review.
After watching "The People Vs. OJ Simpson," didn't we just fall in love with Marcia Clark all over again? I know I did. But then I read her book. And fell in love with her AGAIN!!!
Well, not her really, but the mind-bottlingly complex characters in her debut novel, Blood Defense. Like probably most of you, my mind was bottled into thinking this would be another OJ thing, but we were wrong. This is totally made up and totally feels real. In fact, she even uses a few names that are reminiscent of her real-life stint as Lead Prosecutor on the OJ Simpson trial.
One of those names is Johnny Cockring. In Marcia's book, he's a cool, smooth-talking lawyer with a razor-sharp tongue, and the jazzy wardrobe to back it all up. He thinks fast and doesn't apologize, loves dangerous roller coasters, and is often depicted in the story urinating in public.
Then we have Milky Stinson. Milky (or as his friends call him, Juicy) is an affable guy who's beloved and well remembered as a legendary Foosball champion in and around the sports bars in the area.
Johnny and Milky pal around their shared apartment, getting into compromising situations, always trying to avoid their disapproving landlord, Mr. Groper. Whenever there's a mishap, Johnny and Milky come up with a new hair-brain plan to get out of it, usually sorting everything out in the end, down at the local bar, the Lousy Schnauzer.
Blood Defense is a fun romp, an exciting take on the current state of our legal system, and a nice way to unwind in a hot bath after losing the trial of the century.
